The Vision Behind START Groups

START groups are St. Paul’s version of what you may have heard other churches refer to as “home groups,” “cell groups,” or “Acts Groups.”

We may have different names for these groups, but the idea behind them is the same. From the Bible, we understand that not only did the early church grow rapidly in the years after Jesus ascended into heaven, but as more people were added, they joined together into small fellowship communities in people’s homes. These groups came together in order that believers might break bread and fellowship together, pray for one another, care for one another, study and grow together. Simply said, the Christian life is done better when we’re together.

START groups normally meet once a week, on various days throughout the week. Those choosing to get into a Wednesday START group will find that nursery and a children’s program are both offered on that night as well.

Whether you are just STARTing your faith journey or whether you are looking to  START deepening a faith already begun, we encourage everyone in our church to find a place in our START group ministry.

The Fellowship of the Believers

42They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.     Acts 2:42 (NIV)

Expectations

Our START Groups vary as to the curriculum studied and the makeup of the participants. There are five things you can expect:

1) There is a group out there for you! Most all of our groups can be joined anytime during the year and meet mornings and evenings.
2) You’ll have fun! Fellowship is one of the key functions of START groups.
3) You’ll eat well! Most groups encourage the sharing of a meal or light snacks. These duties are normally shared by the participants.
4) You’ll learn together! Groups study biblically sound material that enhances one’s daily walk with the Lord.
5) You’ll meet new friends. These friends will share life’s ups and downs with you through prayer, support, and by simply walking with you on the journey of faith.
